The Dasheri mango, also known as Dashehari mango, is a type of mango tree native to India and is known for producing large, sweet mangoes with yellowish-orange skin. The Dasheri mango originated in the 18th century in a village near Kakori in Lucknow district, Uttar Pradesh, and is one of the most widely grown and exported mango varieties in India. The name “Dussehri” is derived from the village of Dasheri, near Lucknow. Dasheri mangoes are also grown in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, Nepal, and Pakistan, with Malihabad in Uttar Pradesh being the largest producer. Many varieties of mango found in the northern region of India are known as the “mother” mango. The scientific name for the Dasheri mango is Mangifera indica.
